Jhe Russell hails from Cambridge Massachusetts and has trained with the Boston Ballet School, School of American Ballet Theatre (New York), Walnut Hill (Natick Mass) and Canada’s National Ballet School (Toronto). Mr Russell graduated from Canada’s National Ballet School with the Erik Bruhn Scholarship in 1994 while also later winning the 5th International Erik Bruhn Competition representing the National Ballet of Canada in 1999.

As a professional dancer Mr. Russell has worked for The National Ballet of Canada, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Bucharest Opera Ballet, Charlotte Ballet and Bejart Ballet Lausanne (Switzerland). Some of Mr. Russell’s principal roles include Basilio in Don Quixote, Siegfried in Swan Lake, Prince in Cinderella, Herman Schmerman Pas de Deux (William Forsythe) and Shiva in Maurice Bejart’s ‘’Bhakti 3’’. As a choreographer Mr. Russell has had the pleasure of creating roles for the National Ballet of Canada, Bejart Ballet Lausanne, and the Riverside Theatre in Iowa City. Mr. Russell has also recently achieved his masters in choreography with the University of Iowa where he has taught choreography and technique to beginning modern, beginning ballet, continuing ballet and beginning jazz.

Teaching is very important to Mr. Russell and he is very passionate about empowering children from all walks of life. This passion inspired Mr. Russell to create his own outreach project entitled The Raven Project in 2016 where he has has held dance workshops in homeless shelters and inner city community centers. Mr. Russell is extremely honored to be teaching for the Beth Fowler School of Dance!
