Beth Fowler Dancers Take 1st Place at Dance Competition

dancecompetition5-14The Beth Fowler School of Dance Performing Group recently competed in their 3rd regional dance competition of this 2014 season. This past weekend on May 9th – May 11th they competed in the Rainbow National Dance Competition in Freeport, IL which was a sold out competition with 524 teams. Beth Fowler’s Intermediate group (ages 10-12) and Advanced group (ages 13-15) both took 1st place over all in each of their age divisions. Every Beth Fowler dance that competed this 2014 competition season has scored at a “Platinum” level at every competition entered, including 12 “Double Platinums.”

The Intermediate Group performed “Slow Me Down” and “Girl’s Night” both choreographed by Brooke Fowler. This season “Girl’s Night” took 2nd place overall and “Slow Me Down” has taken 1st place over all at every competition entered this year. It has also received “Best choreography of the weekend” at both Rainbow National Dance Competition and Legacy National Dance Competition, and “Most Entertaining dance of the weekend” at Odyssey National Dance Competition. Ms. Fowler also choreographed a duet, “The Perfect Two” which took 1st place over all at the last two competitions, and 3rd place over all at the 1st competition of the year. BFSD dancer, Sophia Gapuz received the “Best Entertainer” of the weekend award.

The Advanced Group performed “One Night is all We Got” choreographed by Hannah Smith which took 3rd place over all, and “In the Closet” choreographed by Joey Hernandez which took 1st place over all. Ms. Smith also choreographed a trio, “Toxic” which took 2nd place over all. All solos competed this season by the Beth Fowler School of Dance Performing Group placed in the top 5 taking 1st thru 5th place over all. BFSD dancer, Carly Ruggeri received the scholarship to attend KAR’s Dance Convention Classes for free in Chicago, IL.

The Beth Fowler School of Dance just started competing last year in 2013 when they also took 1st place over all. All Beth Fowler competitive dancers train in the school’s class program, and have only competed with the Beth Fowler School of Dance. The dance school’s program focuses on training dancers for excellent technique as well as performance artistry. This training has enabled the dancers to secede at a high level of competition in a short time.

The Beth Fowler School of Dance presents 3 dance productions a year at the Egyptian Theatre and has an additional Performing Group for community events and competitions as a bonus performing opportunity. All students have the opportunity to learn the skills needed for the competitive style of dance even if they do not wish to compete, through a class offered at the school titled, “Jazz Turns & Tricks.” The Beth Fowler School of Dance is currently taking registrations for 1 and 2 week Summer Dance Camps.
